Finnish Sunshine

We began our day by driving about three-and-a-half hours from Warsaw to a school for students with disabilities near the city of Katowice. This school is one of the largest schools for students with disabilities in Europe. They currently host over 30 students from the Kharkiv School for the Blind.

We were able to deliver a magnifier, laptops and canes to several students from Kharkiv. We also enjoyed a great performance by their choir. There are three songs I’ve added here below. My favorite is called “Good Morning Ukraine,” but honestly I love every one of these songs and you should definitely give them a listen. All of these are very patriotic and are this group’s response to war.

After the concert, we sat down with the head master of the Kharkiv School for the Blind: Mr. Alexander Belousov. He told us about the bombing of the school and his group’s subsequent escape to Poland. This was a powerful story that I want the world to know. We are hoping to provide more technology and supplies to the students from Kharkiv.

We are looking forward to visiting the school near Katowice again! We value all of the new Ukrainian and Polish friends we have made and can’t wait to see what the future holds.

On our way back to Warsaw, we stopped at a lovely restaurant and I got to try eating rabbit for the first time! I’m a foodie and love trying new things! I also tried malt beer for the first time. If you enjoy malt drinks, or beer, you MUST try malt beer in Poland! It’s awesome!
